ATM Security Tips

ATM Safety Tips

Tips to help you secure your money and your privacy.

We make it a top-priority to keep your account safe by using ATMs with top-notch security systems and fraud deterring features. Nevertheless, fraudsters are constantly coming up with new ways to capture your account information.

  • 7 Tips to Help Protect You During Your Next ATM Visit

  • Keep your PIN private.
Never share it with anyone or write it down. We also recommended that you change your PIN at least once a year.
  •
  • Check your surroundings.
If the ATM isn’t well-lit or you notice suspicious people in the area, find another nearby ATM. Find the nearest fee-free CO-OP ATM.

  • Inspect the ATM.
Before inserting your card into the ATM, inspect the ATM for any broken components, torn or removed security stickers, or modifications to the device. A light tug on parts of an ATM can easily reveal a fraudster’s nefariously placed item.

  • Cover it up.
Shield your PIN number with your hand as you enter it onto the keypad. A common tactic for fraudsters is to place a small camera near the keypad to collect your PIN. Using your hand to cover your PIN entry keeps the camera from gathering this information.

  • Cancel your transaction.
If something seems off (suspicious person, ATM not functioning properly, etc.) and you’ve started your transaction, use the Cancel button to stop the transaction and exit the area safely.

  • Be discreet.
After your cash dispenses from the ATM, put it in your pocket or wallet. Avoid counting the withdrawn cash until you’re in the privacy of your car.

  • A little help from a friend.
If someone is offering to help complete your ATM transaction, decline their offer as it’s likely an attempt to collect your information or take your money. If the ATM is at one of our branches, stop inside we’d be happy to help you.

We monitor our ATMs 24/7 and inspect them multiple times throughout the day. However, when visiting one of our ATMs, if something or someone seems off, please bring it to our attention. Together we can help keep ATM fraudsters away.
